Our Pennine PlaygroundClimb Pendle Hill, explore the nearby Forest of Bowland, (officially designated an Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty), the West Pennine Moors or head for Gisburn Forest and its cycle-ways.

Go bird-watching at Stocks Reservoir. Enjoy Wycoller Country Park – and see the ruins of the building said to have inspired Emily Bronte’s Ferndean Manor and the ancient pack-horse bridge.

Visit Towneley or Gawthorpe Hall. Go fishing.

If you’re after a little extra in the way of adventure there’s the 7KM £300,000 mountain bike course at Lee Quarry. Designed by top course designer Daffyd Davis it’ll test your skills.

Gliding is popular at the Bowland Forest Gliding Club in Chipping and at Brown Wardle, Rossendale. Ski enthusiasts head for the dry ski slopes at Rossendale and Sabden.

The Leeds Liverpool Canal, Reedley marina with 100 berths for narrowboats and the Burwain Sailing Club, near Colne, prove a magnet for boat-lovers.

At Whitworth Water Ski and Recreation Centre in Rossendale there are opportunities to waterski and wakeboard. It’s also the northern training centre for the British Disabled Water Ski Association.

We’ve plenty of fells to run, riversides to explore, hills to climb, rivers to fish, waterways to sail and moors to cross.

Equestrian enthusiasts can try out the Mary Towneley Loop, part of the Pennine Bridleway.
